About Jaymohan
Born on 6th September 1967 at Pondicherry, around 50 kms from the birth place of Babaji. Pondicherry is a small town on the East coast of Tamil Nadu. It is the place where Shri Aurobindo lived and attained Mahasamadhi. Pondicherry was earlier called Vedpuri, being a centre of Vedic studies in the South and that by tradition; the Siddha Agasthya was the guardian of Pondicherry. It was discovered that the once Vedic university was situated in the very spot where the Sri Aurobindo Ashram now stands. With in 50 kms is the famous Chidambaram where Thirumoolar attained Soruba Samadhi.
He was born to Shri E. M Padmanabham and Smt. Savithri who hail from the orthodox families of Kerala. So Dr. P Jaymohan was drawn to some of the practices and ways of Brahmin Nambodiris like Jyothisha and Palmistry, much against the wishes and likings of his parents and elders. Right from the tender age, Dr. P Jaymohan was a very devout and pious.
Dr. P Jaymohan through his cultivated habit of reading had gone through a number of literatures on yoga. Thirst with seeking more knowledge, he was soon attracted to take up yoga under the tutelage of Sri Madhavan Iyengar of Kumaran Nagar in Pondicherry.
Without any clue to his elders at home Dr. P Jaymohan acquired a couple of books and took up the practice of yoga, especially the most difficult of asanas like Halasana, Sarvangasana, and Chakrasana etc.
He approached his Guru Sri Madhavan Iyengar and requested him to accept him as his disciple. At once he was asked to speak what he knew of yoga and his thoughts on yoga. He was also asked to demonstrate some asanas before a small gathering in the Guru's presence. Dr. P Jaymohan did what he knew. The Guru was a bit surprised and remarked "a good seed to good parents" and commenting that he likes such dedicated students and readily accepted him as his disciple.
Subsequently under the guidance of his Guru P Jaymohan passed the certificate course in Yoga. However, he could not go for higher or advanced courses as he had to pursue his Bachelors degree in Agriculture at Tiruneveli in South India.
